Position Title: Training Coordinator

Total work hours: 40 hours a week

Period of Performance: March 1, 2019 thru June 28, 2019 Dates are estimates and subject to change. Total period is approximately 120 working days

The United States Peace Corps program in Timor-Leste seeks qualified and motivated candidates for the following short-term position:  Training Coordinator   The United Peace Corps is a non-political, non-religious organization, which will bring American Volunteers to Timor-Leste to be assigned to Districts to work with communities on development projects. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Programming and Training (DPT) and in close coordination with the Training Development Specialist (TDS), the Training Coordinator (TC) is responsible for logistics for training events, preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of two upcoming In-Service Trainings (ISTs ), a two week “Reconnect” training in March and the three day Project Design and Management (PDM) training in May.  The TC will also be responsible for conducting site identification and preparation of communities for the 10-week Pre-Service Training, which will occur later in October 2019.  The TC also works together with the Language and Cross-culture Coordinator and Programming staff for coordination and support of training materials and content.  The work of the TC is primarily logistics and administrative.      

Major responsibilities include:

  ·         Training Coordination for Reconnect and Project Design and Management trainings

  ·         Site identification for Pre-Service Training                  


Education:  Vocational Certificate or equivalent training certificate beyond High school is required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.      

Prior Work Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience working in logistics and events management. Those without a Bachelor’s Degree will require an additional 2 years of work experience (4 years’ experience required).  Work in training management, training design or education settings preferred (regardless of education level).  Evidence of administrative skills and leadership.    

Language Proficiency:  Fluency in both English and Tetun (written and spoken) is required, as is an ability to quickly and accurately go between Tetun to English, and vice versa.  Ability to speak Bahasa Indonesian and/or Portuguese is preferred.      

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:  

·         Experience in the management of logistics and coordination of events.   

·         Experience monitoring and evaluating training events and demonstrated experience in creative and innovative solutions  

·         Demonstrated abilities to maintain professional networks of contacts with organizations and/or government officials through personal contact and correspondence.

·         High quality written composition and translations skills  

·         Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting as a part of an intercultural team.   ·         Demonstrated ability to manage teams.  

·         Ability to work under time restraints and manage many projects.  

·         Ability to contribute to the process improvements by assessing, analyzing and recommending solutions.  

·         Ability to coordinate effectively with other units and external parties in achieving specific objectives.      



NOTE:  Evidence of English language proficiency inferred based on experiences detailed in application materials as well as grammar, syntax, word choice, and sentence structure in written materials.  Assumes Timorese national (which implies fluent in Tetum).
