MARKET DEVELOPMENT SENIOR OFFICER


 


Our growing NGO is seeking to hire a MARKET DEVELOPMENT SENIOR OFFICER who will responsible for finding locally appropriate solutions for storage and transport of agriculture produce. They are also responsible for ensuring farmers understand and can meet the quality requirements of buyers and they are responsible for linking farmers to buyers. The effort will be on output markets focused of sales of fresh fruit, vegetables, and to a lesser extent, tilapia and cereals to local organizations such as schools and hotels. Key responsibilities include: identification and testing of new products and services, creating market linkages between the farmer, CDA, wholesaler and/or output buyer (the HATUTAN target schools); and developing marketing strategies around the products and services.


 


Based in Dili, a Bachelor's degree in Bachelors degree in agriculture science, nutrition, economics, business management or related field. To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate multi-tasks, meet deadline and process information in support of changing program activities to get important work done. Previous experience in facilitating different project and Agriculture business role is a plus.


Market Development Senior Officer Responsibilities:


·       Development of appropriate solutions for storage and transport of fresh produce to rural buyers (schools, hotels, etc) and establishing the sustainable networks that connect farmers to buyers.


·       Assess what is already available in Timor-Leste to support with storage and transport of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and cereals, which may include some type of storage facilities or packing “houses.”


·       Identify storage and transport options for perishable produce in the local context, this will be options at the community level as well as for schools; lead on testing of options, preferably with a Human Centered Design approach.


·       Analyze quality of produce, storage usage, transport mechanisms and sales to identify trends, troubleshoot challenges, generate case studies and suggest changes to strengthen output markets.


·       Analyze agriculture data to ensure activities are targeting appropriate schools and is implemented in a manner that increases social inclusion and empowerment of women and persons living with disability.


·       Coordinate with other Mercy Corps programs and relevant government institutions mainly the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to fully utilize the CDA model for the success of program implementation.


·       Plan, organize and participate in technical meetings and workshops for assisting the transfer of knowledge and information on areas where policy or strategies need alignment.


Market Development Senior Officer Requirements:


·       Bachelors degree in agriculture science, nutrition, economics, business management or related field.


·       At least 4 years’ relevant experience in agricultural-related programming in the Timor-Leste context; such as work with an agriculture business in Timor-Leste or International Development work.


·       Prior experience leading trainings and dynamic public speaking skills.


·       Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people


·       Good reporting, communication and representation skills


·       Fluency in Tetun, with proficiency in English preferred.


·       Ability to use MS Office applications.


·       Willingness to travel frequently to HATUTAN’s four Municipalities
