POSITION PURPOSE


 


The Agriculture Production Manager is responsible for planning and implementing support activities for the improvement of agricultural production in the Sustainable Viqueque Farmers to Markets (FarMar) project. This position will develop plans to increase yields and quality of selected products including ginger, coconut, and candlenut.


 


Location             Viqueque Municipality


 


Reporting to      Project Manager


 


Supervises         Agricultural Extension Facilitators


 


Remuneration Range     Officer Level – Range determined according to experience


 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Conduct research and analyse data on baseline agriculture production and distribution of selected products.



  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries authorities and Extension Agents and other relevant stakeholders.



  • Facilitate soil testing and analysis



  • Develop activities and resources for farmer training in good agriculture practices including conservation agriculture and agroforestry.



  • Collect and create plan for the dissemination of recent and context-appropriate research and innovations in production.



  • Conduct research into cultivar qualities and improvements based on: proposed end uses, end-user flavour preferences, resilience and yield potential for selected products.



  • Develop Farmer Field School (FFS) programmes as per each focal value chain suitable for a range of literacy levels.



  • Develop illiterate-friendly value-chain specific information sheets, manuals and resources for the target value chains.


·       Conduct FFS Train-the-trainer workshops for ADRA Ag-Extension Facilitators and MAF Extension Agents. Provide refresher training/mentoring/coaching as required.


·       Plan and implement program for propagation and expansion of areas cultivating target products including the establishment and maintenance of nurseries.



  • Work closely with the Value Chain and Marketing Manager and Business Development Manager to coordinate an integrated approach to value chain development.  


 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCY


 


·       A university degree in agriculture or related field. A Master’s degree is desirable.


 


·       At least three years’ experience working in related field.


 


·       Strong analytical skills including the ability to design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies.


 


·       Strong technical knowledge and skills in agriculture production.


 



  • ·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to build good working relationships with a wide variety of actors within the public and private sectors


 



  • ·       Demonstrated leadership skills


 



  • ·       Experience developing agricultural training curriculum and activities plans.


 


·       The ability to work independently and manage teams to achieve objectives.


 


·       Strong skills in written and verbal English and Tetun.


 


·       Self-motivated a team player.


 


·       Ability to be flexible, creative, and able to work well in challenging environments.
